The Fashion 411 with Maria DiLorenzo June,
2010
Icon Coco Chanel once
said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky,
in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” I
came across this quote years ago when I started to live out my little dream of working in wardrobe consultation. It
started somewhat simply- an ad on craigslist.com- and it grew into a passion that feeds my creative spirit. I loved
the feeling of helping someone discover the PERFECT clothing item--you know that one, the one you’ve been searching
for, but struggled to find. Unveiling it feels like opening a treasure chest of happiness. And putting on that
PERFECT item does more than just clothe a naked body, it can transform people into the person they always wanted to be.
A couple of years ago, I was consulting with a bride-to-be who listened to every other voice but her own about what
to wear for her rehearsal dinner. She had a very clear image of how she wanted to feel that night, so her outfit simply
had to reflect that same energy, spirit and excitement. I can still remember when she put on her choice, a fantastic
classic Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress, her eyes looked brighter, her shoulders straightened and she slowly smiled, saying
to me, “Yes, this is it.” Transformation. Clothing has that power over people. The perfect fit,
the perfect color, the way it draws an eye…it can be magical when we get it right.
I may not
have all the answers, but I have learned a few things along the way. Maybe you’ll enjoy my tips- and if you want
