Fenway Updates
November 2004
by Paul Stanish
Last spring, I wrote an article about Fenway Park and I was very critical of a couple of aspects of the fan experience.
I have a couple of great updates to inform readers about, which I referenced in a negative manner in my previous article.
The first piece of information that I would like to inform readers about is regarding
food. You can now carry any type of food into Fenway Park. That includes, snacks, chips, sausages, Dunkin Donuts, Burritos,
pizza, etc…. You are also allowed to bring in bottled water. That is the only beverage that Red Sox ownership
is allowing fans to bring into the ballpark. That means that soda bottles, Gatorade, poweraid, coffee, hot chocolate
or adult beverages will not be allowed through the gate. This is still a huge and great improvement for Red Sox fans.
However, keep in mind to expect the ball park food prices to increase if they allow food in from the outside.
The second update is regarding the fans enjoyment of the game. If you've ever sat through
a game at Fenway Park you know it is very cramped and often uncomfortable. You also know that there are many distractions
around you no matter where you sit. Starting in the 3rd inning the Red Sox staff has started to enforce that nobody
be allowed back to their seats while a batter is at the plate. They will only let people get back to their seats in
between at-bats. While this is a minor improvement, I still maintain that nobody be allowed back until there's a pitching
change or until the current half inning is over.
Finally, the Red
Sox organization created a security hotline that any fan can call during the game if someone is impeding their enjoyment of
the game. That phone number is 617-226-6411. I have found that this is more effective and efficient than attempting
to find an usher, who would have to call security anyways.
